What We’re about

More Than a Logo

Established in 2003, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture program, Idaho Preferred, was developed in partnership with Idaho producers and industry to help consumers and buyers easily recognize products that are genuinely rooted in Idaho agriculture. What started as a way to identify local products has grown into a statewide effort to support producers and expand market opportunities.

Every Operation Has a Story. That Story Matters.

From family farms and ranches to food producers, processors, artisans, and businesses across the state, every operation has a story. It connects consumers to their food, helps buyers source with confidence, builds trust, and creates demand for Idaho-grown products

We Bring Those Stories to Life.

Through coordinated marketing, digital tools, and statewide campaigns, Idaho Preferred helps producers be seen, whether through the Farm & Food Finder, local food directories, seasonal promotions, or media features that highlight the people and products behind Idaho agriculture.

Visibility Is Just the Beginning.

We connect producers to real opportunities, linking them with retailers, foodservice partners, distributors, and buyers across the state. From agritourism experiences and community events to retail promotions and trade show participation, Idaho Preferred helps move products into the marketplace.

At the same time, we support producers as they grow, providing education, resources, and guidance to help them navigate new markets, strengthen their brand, and scale their operations with confidence.

At the heart of this work is one goal: to promote, connect, and educate Idaho producers so they can grow their marketplace. In doing so, we strengthen local economies, support our communities, and Idaho’s agricultural legacy for generations to come.

A Statewide Resource for Local Food

Idaho Preferred brings together multiple tools and partnerships into one connected system, making it easier than ever to find and support Idaho-grown products.

Through the Idaho Farm & Food Finder and statewide directories, consumers and buyers can search by product, location, and business type to discover local farms, food producers, markets, and agritourism experiences.

As the network continues to grow, new businesses, products, and partners are added, creating a comprehensive and easy-to-use resource that connects Idaho agriculture to communities across the state.

What Is ISDA & How Are We Connected?

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) serves Idaho’s agriculture industry by promoting, protecting, and regulating the people, products, and resources that sustain it.

As Idaho’s leading industry, agriculture plays a critical role in the state’s economy, communities, and way of life. ISDA supports that foundation through a wide range of programs, partnerships, and services.

Idaho Preferred is part of that work.

As a program within ISDA’s Market Development Division, Idaho Preferred works alongside international trade initiatives and the Idaho Farm and Ranch Center to support producers across the state. While ISDA provides the structure and a strong foundation, Idaho Preferred focuses on helping producers grow their marketplace.

Through marketing, market development, outreach, and storytelling, Idaho Preferred connects Idaho producers to domestic consumers, buyers, and communities. This work helps expand opportunities, strengthen businesses, and ensure Idaho agriculture remains visible, competitive, and valued.

Together, this work supports Idaho agriculture from production to marketplace.
