The Shed at Garrett Ranches
Since 1914
Just east of Homedale, Idaho, the old Garrett Ranches packing shed may look ordinary outside, but step in and you’ll find history, family, and farm-fresh goodness.
Vintage fruit crates line the walls, a reminder of when the Garretts shipped apples and plums across the country and overseas. Today, while Italian prunes still head to New Jersey, the focus is closer to home — nourishing the community with fruit, vegetables, and farm goods grown just steps away.
For over 50 years, Gary Garrett has tended the orchards, and now his son Corby keeps operations steady behind the scenes, while daughter, Angie, is focused on marketing and transforming the old plum shed into a warm, welcoming space that honors their grandmother’s hospitality. At the heart of it all is the seasonal crew, whose careful hands—from planting to harvest—make every piece of produce possible. Without them, the orchards wouldn’t thrive.
Most of the Garretts’ harvest is sold at their farm stand, but they also proudly supply local restaurants that champion Idaho-grown ingredients—like The Chop Shop Caldwell and Amano, a recent James Bear Award winner.
Visitors along the Sunnyslope Wine trail often stop here for home-baked pies, seasonal vegetables, local cheeses, and other Idaho-made products.
Reflecting on decades of change, Gary smiles: “This is kind of fun. I enjoy watching what my daughter and sons have done at the fruit stand… and watching the happy customers. I didn’t know you could be so happy to buy something.”
If you stop by, be sure to say hello to Angie — she loves sharing the history of the Garrett family and their plum-packing shed in Central Cove. And if you can’t make it to The Shed, you can still catch the Garretts at several farmers markets in Southern Idaho, including the Nampa Farmers Market on Saturdays or the Caldwell Farmers Market on Tuesdays, as well a the Eagle City farmers market and the Burley Farmers Market. The Shed has also become a favorite stop on Destination Caldwell’s AgVenture tour map.
