Idaho, which is gaining national attention as a prominent grape growing area and becoming vastly popular for their diverse and quality wine selection has recently added a new American Viticultural Area to their resume. An AVA is a federally designated wine grape-growing region distinguishable by distinct geographic features such as climate, soil, elevation and physical features. Conditions and grapes grown within this geographic region cannot be replicated.
This May, the Department of Treasury established the Lewis-Clark Valley as Idaho’s newest AVA. Other AVAs in the state of Idaho include the Snake River Valley AVA (2007) and the Eagle Foothills AVA (2015). New regions illustrate an emerging wine culture in Idaho and will act as a catalyst for development as more growers investigate the region.
